Vision Statement of BSA

Cyber Chip

Dear Troop 618,

I apologize for this long message, but please read and discuss with your scout or parent.

Because today’s youth are spending more time than ever using digital media for education, research, socializing, and fun, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) have teamed up with content expert NetSmartz®, part of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children® and training expert for many law enforcement agencies to develop the Cyber Chip.  The training to earn the Cyber Chip is designed to  help families and volunteers keep youth safe while online.  Topics include cyberbullying, cell phone use, texting, blogging, gaming, and identity theft.  Requirements for the Cyber Chip are specific for Grades 6-8 or Grades 9-12; please below.  Please note the SCOUT Rank and STAR Rank requirements now include earning the Cyber Chip; previously it was optional as seen in the Scouts BSA Handbook for Boys.  Lastly, all Cyber Chips expire annually.  Each Scout will need to go to Netsmartz and complete two new resources to recommit to net safety and netiquette.  Then, with the unit leader, the Scout can add the new date to the Cyber Chip card or certificate.

Bike ride part 2!

Posted on Feb 15 2023 - 2:20pm

All,

We will be riding the Baltimore and Annapolis trail this weekend again but doing the reverse course to last time

Our plan, is to leave from Sawmill Creek Park (7405 Charley Eckman Lane Glen Burnie, MD 21061) and ride to the trailhead for the Baltimore Annapolis trail. From there, we will ride to downtown Annapolis and take a break for Ice Cream and then return back.

this will be a 30ish mile ride but it is not too difficult and is paved. We will also ride through Annapolis so scouts can practice most of the following for the cycling merit badge

Option A: Road Biking
(a)Take a road test with your counselor and demonstrate the

following:

(1)On an urban street with light traffic, properly execute

a left turn from the center of the street; also demon

strate an alternate left-turn technique used during

periods of heavy traffic.

(2)Properly execute a right turn.

(3)Demonstrate appropriate actions at a right-turn-only

lane when you are continuing straight.

(4)Show proper curbside and road-edge riding. Show

how to ride safely along a row of parked cars.

(5)Cross railroad tracks properly.

(b)
You must make a report of the rides taken. List dates for the
routes traveled, and interesting things seen on the ride.

You should have a geared bike, helmet, water, snacks and have experience cycling. Other leaders if you are available we could use more. Feel free to contact ASM Tim (240-374-8697) or Isaac with any questions etc.

Otherwise we will do a head count at 9am sharp and then head out!
